4 out of 5 stars Good resource book   January 18, 2002

The first thing noticable about this book is the steep price. At almost a hundred dollars, you're going to think twice before you venture into buying another book about golf. This however is not just another book about golf, if you're looking for a pictorial about nice looking golf courses this is not what you need. If you're looking for information (and pictures) on how can a designer, planner or developer go wrong while planning, building or operating a golf course then you're going to find a lot of useful information and illustrations. I think this book is more about how not to do it. This really makes it different from other books available in the market. The audience for this will be golf course designers and managers and ennvironmentalists, and the theme is managing golf course developments with minimum environmental impacts. The book is written in an easy to read language, and is not made complicated, which is good, keeping in mind that its audience will probably come from different backgrounds. If I am teaching a course on environmental issues as they relate to golf courses this would be my pick. For this price however, I would have expected the illustrations and pictures inside to be in color! This is a new book so it reads and looks fresh, I will take one star off for the 100 dollar tag and keep 4 stars for the content.

1 out of 5 stars Great Book With A Huge Mistake   December 15, 2008
A. G. Abouel Seoud (Egypt)
This is one of the greatest books but with a Big Mistake in Calculating Fertilization Rates ,.the author in page 834 (calibration Formulas and Conversion Used and wrote a wrong conversion
To Covert lbs/1000sqft Multiply By 4.91 to obtain Kg/100m2 the actuall number should have been 0.4883 he then used this in all his calculations like in page 320 "Nitrogern Rates of Golf greens is from 8 to 24 pounds of nitrogen per 1000 square feet (39 to 118 Kg N/100m2)...."
It should have been 3.9 to 11.8 Kg N/100m2 this is a huge mistake in the book since in my country we use Kg (metric units) So I used the wrriten numbers without noticing the mistake till my green was ruined !!! so untill the author fixes this you should not buy this book (if you dont use Metric units then no problem but then i dont know if his numbers are correct every time)
check the converstion table that he copied wrongly
